Follonica is a town located in the similar bay in Italian region of Tuscany, in front of Elba Island. Follonica was inhabited from ancient times, and the first inhabitants were the Etruscans and Romans. In the 19th century it was an important industrial center in steel production, and after industrial crisis of 1970 the city began to turn to tourism.
Follonica is today a modern city and a popular tourist destination, awarded several times for environmental and sea cleanliness. The city is full of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, taverns, cafes and bars. From the city's sights should be mentioned Iron museum, church of St. Leopold and medieval castle. South of Follonica is located Marina di Scarlino, a large marina with over 950 berths.
Follonica has several attractive and tidy sandy beaches surrounded by dense pine trees.
